The 2012 carnival was great weekend and the sun shone down on us yet again, but not anywhere else it seems. Every one had a wonderful day and profits go to the upkeep of the Parish Hall, which is run as a charity for the village.
Our grateful thanks go to
- The WI for keeping us all going with their tea and cakes
- Roy and The Southgate Club for manning the bars
- All those who manned the stalls and games
- The early birds, who helped to set up the field on Saturday, and cleaned up on Sunday morning,
- The many local businesses, who donated monies and prizes for the procession, fancy dress and the games etc.
We are also helped by many local organisations who come and do their bit for free.
Without these groups we would not be able to put on such a variety of items. This is a community carnival and
without the community pulling together it just would not happen.
Our committee is a small and dedicated group that somehow manage to pull the events together each year. The success of the carnival depends on a lively committee to organise it all as well as the volunteers on the day. We welcome all the help and please let us know if you can play your part in keeping our community carnival going, and an event to look forward to for many years to come.
Our local churches play an important role in our community with their work with young people and families, with the elderly and housebound, with those in hospital, with the bereaved, and also with those celebrating precious moments in life such as weddings and baptisms. They also campaign on relevant social issues that impact the rural community, such as the price that Dairy Farmers receive for their milk. Many members of the local churches play an active role in the different groups represented at the Carnival. The Carnival Service of Celebration on Sunday morning at 10:30 am in the Marquee is a friendly and informal service of Christian worship that is open to the whole community. You don’t need to know any special words or wear special clothes, so please come as you are! There will be some activities for children, and tea and coffee are served afterwards.
